Nintendo Switch Sports: Tennis – How to Do a Power Serve

The long-awaited sequel to the cult classic Nintendo Switch Sports is finally here with a mix of old favorites and new additions.  One of the returning games, Tennis, is back for the Wii Sports sequel and plays nearly identical to the same. However, this time players can control their character’s movement on the field instead of the AI doing it for them. Another feature is the Nintendo Switch Sports power serve, or what some might call the “perfect serve.” This is when gamers hit the ball at the right time during the start of each round to make the ball go faster.

Sadly, this power serve is a pretty hard maneuver to pull off with the Nintendo Switch Sports controls. It requires perfect frame execution to pull off. Luckily, there are some handy ways to help players time this. So for fans looking to add an extra flair to their game, here is how to pull off the perfect serve consistently.

The time to hit the best Nintendo Switch Sports tennis serve is when the ball is at the highest point when players throw it in the air. Gamers will know they have done this correctly when there is a bit extra hit animation flair and a unique high-pitched sound after the ball is hit. However, fans can’t wait to hit the ball right as it’s at the highest point, since the animation to swing the ball is a bit slow, they’ll miss the perfect serve. So instead, players need to start their serve animation a tad bit earlier so that the end of their hit animation lands when the ball is at its highest point.

This is going to take a bit to perfect; luckily, fans can keep perfecting their power serve in practice mode until they get a feel for it. It should take about half a second, or 32 frames exactly, after the initial serve for the ball to be at its peak, so base the timing of the swing on that. A good Nintendo Switch Sports tip for players is to time the serve with the tiny blue server icon at their feet. Every time the icon bounces, it takes half a second to get back to its starting position. So if fans start their serve at the beginning of the bounce animation and swing when the icon comes back for the next one, that will always land a power serve if done correctly.

Nintendo Switch Sports is available now for the Nintendo Switch.
