Fantasy football Week 4 sit, start: Rage against the machine

Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady hasn't shown the production many expected thus far this season.

The matchup between the surprising Jacksonville Jaguars and the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles highlights this week's NFL slate, as FrontPageBets GM/Content Director Mike Szvetitz makes his picks and predictions.

We hear you loud and clear.

There's no need to recreate Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey's recent temper tantrum when addressing how the stars on your fantasy team have underperformed thus far this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, in fact, came to Dorsey's defense after the coach vented his frustration on his tablet, notes and anything else within his vicinity following his team's 21-19 loss to the Miami Dolphins last Sunday.

“I’m not the only adult in the entire league that’s throwing temper tantrums. So, thank you Ken, for taking me off the hook,” Brady said on his SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Go!”

Well Tom, you're not completely off the hook. After all, the G.O.A.T. has been underperforming in the eyes of fantasy football owners this season after setting Buccaneers franchise records in both passing yards and touchdowns in 2021.

And he's not the only one giving fantasy owners reason to rage. We're looking at you, Austin Ekeler of the Los Angeles Chargers, Alvin Kamara of the New Orleans Saints and D.J. Moore of the Carolina Panthers.

FrontPageBets looks at players heading into Week 4 who could be causing some angst.

Brady currently resides as the 28th-best quarterback in fantasy circles after tossing a total of three touchdown passes in his first three games.

While that's hardly the return on the investment you envisioned, let's consider that Brady has been without Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Julio Jones (knee) since the opener at the Dallas Cowboys and fellow wideout Mike Evans for one game due to suspension.

Brady also has faced tough defenses in the Cowboys, Saints and Green Bay Packers.

Favorable fantasy matchups are ahead against the Atlanta Falcons (Oct. 9), Pittsburgh Steelers (Oct. 16) and Baltimore Ravens (Oct. 30).

Verdict: Stay the course with Brady.

While Brady was selected in the neighborhood of the fifth round in your draft, Ekeler likely resided in a higher-rent district: a top-five pick overall.

Ekeler has 32 carries for 80 yards this season. Sure, his 21 catches for 139 yards soften the blow a bit. Ekeler has yet to find the end zone for a Chargers team that rapidly is accumulating injuries.

Justin Herbert's rib cartilage injury -- and a battered offensive line -- likely will cause plenty of checkdowns for Ekeler. He'll remain a PPR machine with the majority of his points coming through the air ... and do you really care how the sausage is made?

Kamara, a likely second-round pick, has lacked bite with the Saints, and Jameis Winston isn't helping matters by looking downfield to Michael Thomas and rookie Chris Olave rather than check it down a la Drew Brees in 2020.

Moore has seven catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. That's not just one game, it's his total of three with Baker Mayfield as his quarterback. Mayfield likely isn't going anywhere for the Panthers, and neither will you with Moore in your lineup.

Hope that Kamara and Moore erupt for one week and sell at their highest point, which sadly may be 70 cents on the dollar. That price could go down in time, too.

Let's start with the obvious. If you're a fantasy owner who selected the Vikings' Dalvin Cook (shoulder), the Detroit Lions' D'Andre Swift (shoulder) or the Chicago Bears' David Montgomery (ankle, knee), it's likely you handcuffed them later in the draft with Alexander Mattison, Jamaal Williams or Khalil Herbert, respectively.

Williams looks to be a prime candidate for a leading role this week against the Seattle Seahawks. Start him with confidence. And Herbert hitting the Texans for a pair of scores makes him a no-brainer, too.

Are you in need of a wide receiver and are willing to roll the dice? How about Richie James of the New York Giants?

Why James? Well, someone has to catch the ball for the Giants in lieu of Sterling Shepard's ACL injury.

And considering Kenny Golladay can't catch a cold, Kadarius Toney has an ailing hamstring to keep him company in the doghouse and rookie Wan'Dale Robinson (knee) has an injury of his own, well Brian Daboll is running out of options.
