Scoring 50 points in a game is a rare feat in the NBA. It’s not like back in the day when it felt automatic for some players. With today’s game growing into a world where there are multiple stars on one team, the distribution of wealth is somewhat evenly split. There are special nights where a player erupts for a high volume of points, but it’s not like the 60s when the team relied on one player like Wilt Chamberlain to carry them each night.

If a player is hot, the team might continue to feed him the ball in today's world. To put it into perspective, a player scored 50 points in a game 19 times in 2021-22. With that said, there are plenty of times when someone had multiple 50-point games in a season. For some franchises, it has happened a lot more than usual.

These are the most 50-point games in every team’s history.

Jermaine O’Neal, T.J. Warren, Reggie Miller, Billy Knight - 1 50-Point Game

Only four times in team history has a player finished with 50 points or more. Before the NBA was shut down and moved to the bubble, it had happened three times in team history. Then, T.J. Warren had the first 50-point game in 15 years. When looking at the Pacers, the team is not known for bountiful scorers.

Ja Morant - 1 50-Point Game

In a span of three days, Ja Morant broke the single-game record by the Grizzlies twice. First, he broke Mike Miller’s record of 46 points on February 16, 2022. Then, he recorded the first 50-point game in team history two days later. In the game, Morant shot 73% from the field, making 22 of 30 shots as well as all four of his three-point attempts.

George Yardley - 2 50-Point Games

Jerry Stackhouse owns the record for most points in a game with 57, but it was Yardley that was able to pass the 50-point mark two times. Yardley recorded his games during the same season in 1958. The most recent player to record a 50-point game was Saddiq Bey this season. If Bey can do it again, he will be with some legendary company.

Vince Carter - 2 50-Point Games

When Vince Carter came into the league, he was an electrifying player. For good reason, he is the only player in team history to secure at least two 50-point games. There are some solid players in team history like Chris Bosh, Kyle Lowry, and Kawhi Leonard who have never done it. DeMar DeRozan did it once, while Fred VanVleet is the most recent player to accomplish it, breaking the franchise record with 54 points in 2021.

Kemba Walker - 2 50-Point Games

Walker is the only player to record 50 or 60 points in a single game in team history. Walker owns the franchise record with 60 points, while his 52-point game in 2016 marked him the only player to ever go over the 50-point hump. Walker finished his career as the all-time leading scorer in team history. Given that he had games like this, it should come as no surprise.

Karl-Anthony Towns - 2 50-Point Games

Anthony Edwards has come super close to hitting 50 points in a game but has come up one and two points short respectively. Next season, he should be in consideration to make a run at joining Towns. As for Towns, he is the only player to score 60 points in a game, which he did this season. That game gave him the most 50-point games in team history.

Dwyane Wade - 3 50-Point Games

LeBron James owns the single-game record with 61 points and hit the 50-point mark two times. However, the greatest Heat player of all time did it one more time. Wade had a longer tenure than James which helps his case. With that said, Wade was a scoring machine and ended his career with the most points in team history.

Dirk Nowitzki - 3 50-Point Games

It’s only a matter of time before Luka Doncic owns this record. For now, this belongs to the greatest player in Maverick's history. Doncic already owns one 50-point game on his resume. He also remains in the playoff race so that we could see another during these Conference Finals. Nowitzki also owns the single-game record of 53 points, which is just two more points than Doncic scored 51 this season.

Anthony Davis - 3 50-Point Games

Before Anthony Davis, Jamal Mashburn owned the single-game record with 50 points. Then, Davis beat the record two different times as he scored 50, 53, and 59 points. Brandon Ingram came close to joining the club when he scored 49 points two years ago. As for Davis, if he stayed in New Orleans, he would have been the greatest player in team history.

Jamal Murray - 3 50-Point Games

This record might have been higher had Murray not missed all of last season. Remember the 2020 playoffs when Murray battled Donovan Mitchell in an epic scoring first round? Murray has had that scoring prowess his entire career. He beat out Carmelo Anthony, who accomplished this two times in his early Nuggets career. Nikola Jokic has hit 50 points just one time, but he is also pretty busy rebounding and passing in games too.

Devin Booker - 3 50-Point Games

Devin Booker is only 25 years old and he might be one of the best shooting guards of our era. He is still getting better, which is a dangerous thought. Booker scored 70 points in his second season in the league. It remains the highest point total we have seen since Kobe Bryant scored over 80 points back in the day.

Tiny Archibald - 4 50-Point Games

There was a stretch from 1972 to 1973 that Archibald was one of the most prolific scorers in the league. Archibald scored over 50 points four times during this time. That included his career-high 55 points. In the modern era, DeMarcus Cousins scored over 50 points two times in a matter of two months in 2016. Oscar Robertson has also hit 50 points two times in his career with the team.

Tracy McGrady - 4 50-Point Games

From 2002 to 2004, McGrady kept the Magic relevant because he was such a dynamic scorer. During this time, McGrady topped 50 points four times. In 2003 and 2004, it helped him win two scoring titles. McGrady scored the franchise-record 62 points in 2004. Shaquille O’Neal was close to joining McGrady at the top, but he scored 49 points two different times.

Kyrie Irving - 4 50-Point Games

If this doesn’t silence the critics about Irving, then what will? Irving began his Nets career in the fall of 2019. In three seasons, Irving already owns the single-game record and the most 50-point games. Irving recorded two of those games this season and also became the first player to ever surpass 60 points this season as well. Kevin Durant has hit 50 points two times in two seasons to his credit.

Bob McAdoo - 5 50-Point Games

From 1974 to 1976, McAdoo was one of the best in the league. In 1975, McAdoo won an NBA MVP Award and was a three-time scoring champion. To help with that, McAdoo notched five 50-point games. That includes 52 points two times, which remains tied with Charles Smith as the single-game record.

George Gervin - 5 50-Point Games

George Gervin nearly stretched this record out. He hit 49 points two other times in his career, which would have helped him reach the top-10 among NBA teams. Gervin finished his career as the all-time leading scorer before Tim Duncan arrived. As for Duncan, he scored only one 50-point game.

Bernard King - 5 50-Point Games

The highest-scoring man on Christmas Day also recorded the most 50-point games in team history. Carmelo Anthony, the only other player to record 60 points, came up just short. King and Anthony are the only players to hit the 60-point threshold, but it was King who displayed it more often during the 80s.

Bradley Beal - 5 50-Point Games

Some of the best players in team history such as Elvin Hayes and Wes Unseld were defensive stoppers. Another great scorer in Gilbert Arenas did not stick around with the Wizards as long as Beal but could have owned this record if he had longevity in his NBA career. Both Arenas and Beal are the only players to hit 60 points, while Beal has done this five times since 2017.

Adrian Dantley - 6 50-Point Games

During the 80s, Dantley was right up there as one of the best scorers in the league. Dantley scored 50 points four times from 1981 to 1982. He never hit the 60-point mark in his career, but make no mistake about his talents. The Jazz had the second-greatest scorer in team history in Karl Malone and he never accomplished this mark more than Dantley.

Russell Westbrook - 6 50-Point Games

When Kevin Durant left the Thunder, it changed Westbrook. The season after, he averaged the first triple-double since Oscar Robertson. During that time, he scored 57 and 58 points in a season. The 58 points are tied with Fred Brown for the most points in a single game. Meanwhile, he scored 50 points one more time that season and came up one point short with 49 another time.

Jayson Tatum - 6 50-Point Games

Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, John Havlicek, and Paul Pierce are some great players. It’s time to throw Jayson Tatum in that category as well. Last year, Tatum tied Bird’s record for 60 points in a game. Where Tatum stands alone is with how many times he has scored 50 in a game. Tatum scored 54 and 51 this season. This record is going to grow as long as Tatum remains healthy.

Dominique Wilkins - 8 50-Point Games

One would have thought that Bob Pettit owned this record, but this belongs to Dominique Wilkins. Had Michael Jordan not been in the league, Wilkins might have recorded a scoring title. Instead, he holds this record. Wilkins is tied with Pettit and Lou Hudson with 57 points scored in a game. In 1986, Wilkins recorded 57 points two times in four months.

LeBron James - 10 50-Point Games

The word Cavaliers will always be associated with LeBron James. Kyrie Irving is tied with James for the most points in a game with 57, but it was James that scored 50 points eight times during a stretch from 2005 to 2009. James won a scoring title just one time during this stretch but also recorded an MVP. The only other player worth mentioning scoring 50 points was Walt Wesley back in 1971.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 10 50-Point Games

The greatest scorer in NBA history spent the first part of his career with the Bucks before transitioning to the Lakers, where he helped the Lakers grow into a juggernaut in the 80s. In the early 70s, Abdul-Jabbar was an MVP and NBA champion. He was unstoppable with his sky-hook shot. From 1970 to 1972, he recorded five of these games. He owned the single-game record until 2006 when Michael Redd scored 57 points.

Allen Iverson - 13 50-Point Games

On his way to winning four scoring titles from 2001 to 2005, there was no other player like Iverson during this time. If not for Wilt Chamberlain, Iverson would have owned the single-game record, but it’s Iverson that has played the closest. Chamberlain scored a record 68 points, but Iverson came close in 2005 with 60 points. Iverson had no problem taking 40 shots a game, like Chamberlain, so it’s natural that he hit the 50-point mark numerous times.

 Damian Lillard - 14 50-Point Games

When the NBA shifted to the bubble, Lillard willed the Trail Blazers to the playoffs. That included scoring 61 points, something he had already done in January of that season. The season before, Lillard set a record for 60 points. While Portland has had great players like Bill Walton and Clyde Drexler, there has been no player that can score the way Lillard has in their team’s history.

James Harden - 23 50-Point Games

From 2018 to 2020, Harden won three straight-scoring titles. That included averaging 36.1 points per game at one point. To get that average, you have to put up big numbers. In his career, Harden was known for doing that. Scoring came easy for Harden. He used his quickness to draw contact. He was also a superb free throw shooter where he cashed in at a high frequency. To put it into perspective, from 2018 to 2010, Harden hit 50 points nine times.

Kobe Bryant - 26 50-Point Games

Wilt Chamberlain, Shaquille O’Neal, Elgin Baylor, and George Mikan are a few names that come to mind when it comes to great-scoring Lakers. The best to ever do it was Kobe Bryant. Bryant scored 81 points in 2006, which broke a 46-year single-game record. Bryant did most of his damage after O’Neal left the Lakers, but he did it for a long time. Even in his last game in 2016, Bryant scored 60 points.

Michael Jordan - 38 50-Point Games

Jordan won 10 scoring titles in his career. Had he not missed about four seasons' worth of playing time, who knows how many more 50-point games he would have had. In the end, Jordan was a scoring God during his time in the 80s and 90s. He remains the only Bull to score over 60 points in a game, something he accomplished five times while playing for Chicago.

Wilt Chamberlain - 109 50-Point Games

Chamberlain was out of his league during his playing days. Chamberlain’s 100 points against the Knicks in 1962 remains an NBA record. He scored over 60 and 70 points on multiple occasions. The only other players that can be talked about in the same sentence with Chamberlain in this regard are Rick Barry and Steph Curry. This record will never be broken and it also proves how skilled Chamberlain was amongst the rest of the crowd during the 60s and early 70s.
