Things are looking up for the Texas A&M football program. Since Jimbo Fisher took over as head coach in 2018, he has hauled in great recruiting classes in terms of 247sports rankings. From 2018-2022, Fisher has brought in recruiting classes ranked 17th, 5th, 6th, 9th, and 1st respectively. Each class has a handful of players still on this team.

Obviously, the same success hasn’t necessarily been shown on the field yet. Coach Fisher has had multiple seasons around 8-4 and 9-3, but the fanbase and college football as a whole expects more, especially with these classes he’s bringing in.

Now that Fisher has built his program the way that he wants, he is officially running the show in College Station. All eyes are on him, and this should be getting fans excited this season. Every player on this roster has been recruited by Fisher and not by a previous coach, so now that everything in Fisher’s plan is in place, we hope to see a lot of success this next season. Let’s go through three reasons to be excited about this coming year for the Aggies.

One issue with many college football teams is that they had a star quarterback but haven’t put enough talent around him to have great success. A good instance of this is Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee. McKee is a good quarterback who was on a bad Stanford team last season who went 3-9. Once McKee is gone, you worry how bad that team will be after they don’t have him.

In College Station, that’s not the case. In fact, it is quite the opposite. Coach Fisher has built this team in a fantastic way, whereas if a quarterback doesn’t step up or play at an elite level, the team can hold its own. Obviously, that’s not the hope, because this team can do great things with a great quarterback, but it can at least get them through the season.

Based on star rankings of projected starters, this is how teams would be ranked:

Clemson – 92 (total stars among starters) Texas A&M – 91 Ohio State – 89 Georgia – 88 Alabama – 85 Oregon – 84 Penn State – 83 Oklahoma – 81 Texas – 81 Florida – 80 Miami – 80 Notre Dame – 80

Among the starters, this team could be among the top-10 talent-wise in the nation. On the offensive side, whoever is a quarterback, whether that be Max Johnson or Haynes King, will have a plethora of weapons to work with.

If the quarterback can’t step up, someone can make a play. Running back Devon Achane is a chunk yardage machine, wide receiver Ainias Smith is finally getting his chance at being the go-to weapon, and there are plenty of other viable receiving options in Evan Stewart, Jalen Preston, Chase Lane, and Max Wright.

On defense, this team has a deep defensive line, the only concern is that there is quite a bit of overturn there. The back seven, however, has a chance to be elite. The linebackers bring back two studs in Andre White Jr. and Edgerrin Cooper, while the corners have promise in Myles Jones, Jaylon Jones, Tyreek Chappell, and Denver Harris. The safeties might be the best part of this defensive with two NFL talents in Demani Richardson and Antonio Johnson.
