As many fans know, Minecraft version 1.17 was released recently. This highly anticipated update contains countless new features, including new creatures, blocks, items, and achievements.

Unlike previous versions, Minecraft 1.17 server software now relies on the latest version of Java (Java 16) to run properly. The most common cause of JNI errors when trying to set up a Minecraft server is that the Java version installed on the machine is out of date.

Fortunately, this problem can be easily resolved by simply updating Java. This will only take a few minutes at most, and all relevant steps will be explained in detail below.

Previous versions of Minecraft came with server software compatible with older versions of Java. However, the latest Minecraft 1.17 update is not the case, it now requires Java 16 to start and run properly.

This is why players who used the old version to successfully run the Minecraft server in the past may now see this error when trying to set up the 1.17 server.

In most cases, just update the Java on the device to match the latest version to fix JNI errors. In this example, it is Java 16.

Players can follow the steps below to complete the installation of Java 16:

The first step is to download the Java 16 installer. Players can easily do this by visiting the official Oracle website. Oracle is the creator of Java, and a direct download of Java 16 can be found here.

Players can choose the correct download based on whether they are on a Windows or Mac machine. Most Windows users want to download files ending in .exe, as shown in the figure below.

After successfully downloading the Java 16 installer, players now need to install the software on their machines. Simply double-click the downloaded executable file and allow the installer to make changes as required to start the process.

After the installer started, everything went well. All players need to do is to click the "Next" button a few times, and the rest is left to the installer.

After completing and fully installing, the player should receive the following message. The JNI error should now be fixed, and players can try to start the 1.17 Minecraft server software.
